Dr Amy Lucas
Counselling Psychologist
Therapy In-Person or Online £130
Hello and Welcome - I’m an HCPC-registered Doctor of Counselling Psychology with over 25 years’ experience in the NHS, supporting people with the impact of trauma, anxiety and burnout, as well as more complex difficulties such as PTSD and psychosis.
You might be a young adult trying to find your place in the world, or at a later stage of life feeling stretched by the demands of work, relationships, or family life perhaps with a sense that things are becoming overwhelming. In therapy we explore issues in a spirit of curiosity and compassion.
How I Work
I work in an integrative way, which means I tailor therapy to you as an individual.
In practice, this means we might:
- explore how past experiences have shaped the way you think and feel
- understand relationship patterns such as self-criticism, people-pleasing or perfectionism which drive anxiety and burnout.
- develop practical ways to manage anxiety, stress, shame and overwhelming emotions
- build a more compassionate and balanced relationship with yourself and others
- work towards goals that matter to you and bring joy.
-
I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including:
- Psychodynamic therapy (understanding deeper patterns and relationships)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (developing practical coping skills and tools)
- Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) (reducing self-criticism and shame)
- Mindfulness-based approaches (helping you feel more grounded and regulated)
- EMDR (a structured approach for processing trauma and anxiety related difficulties)
- CBT and CFT for Psychosis – to reduce distress associated with hearing voices and suspicious beliefs.
I also offer clinical supervision to Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, psychological therapists and trainees supporting them to think deeply about their work and nurture development.
About Me
My senior leadership NHS experience means I can support you in working alongside your GP and other services if needed – helping you navigate NHS pathways, advocate for your needs and feel confident that your voice is being heard.
My work is shaped not only by professional training, but also by a personal appreciation of how life experiences — including health challenges, family dynamics, neurodivergence, parenting, loss and uncertainty — influence how we cope and relate to others. I bring a mind–body perspective to therapy, supporting you to find a sense of balance that feels right for you.
I offer a free initial consultation, giving us a chance to see whether working together feels like a good fit and to answer any questions you may have.
I am registered with all major health insurance providers including BUPA, Aviva, AXA, Vitality, WPA
I am registered as a Chartered Counselling Psychologist (CPsychol), with the Health and Care Professions Counsel (HCPC) and with the British Psychological Society.
